Ketosis

Ketosis is a state of elevated levels of ketone bodies in the body. Ketone bodies are formed by ketogenesis when liver glycogen stores are depleted. In dairy cattle this is typically a sign of a negative energy balance (leading to weight loss), which is typical in early-peak lactation when energy demand exceeds energy intake via feed. Ketosis may be a production-limiting disease in your herd - contact your nutritionist or vet for advice.
