Pack Sizes

Available in 20 kg bags

Action

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram positive organisms, and a limited range of Gram negative bacteria.

Indication

Pigs: For the treatment and prevention of porcine intestinal adenomatosis (Ileitis) caused by Lawsonia intracellularis.
Broiler chickens, layers and replacement layers: As an aid in the treatment and prevention of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) caused by susceptible strains of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and/or M. synoviae. For the treatment and prevention of necrotic enteritis associated with susceptible strains of Clostridium perfringens.

Dosage

Mix thoroughly in feeds before use.
Pigs:
To treat ileitis, feed 400 g premix/1000 kg complete feed, which equates to a concentration of 100 ppm tylosin. Feed continuously for 21 days.
To prevent ileitis, feed 160 g premix/1000 kg complete feed, which equates to a concentration of 40 ppm tylosin. Length of treatment required will depend on the level of risk and exposure, up to 21 days.
Broiler Chickens and Replacement Layers:
To treat and prevent CRD, feed 3,600 – 4,000 g premix/tonne feed, which equates to a concentration of 900– 1,000 ppm tylosin. Feed for 5 days after hatching. Repeat for 2 days at 3 – 5 weeks of age.
To treat necrotic enteritis, feed 400 g premix/tonne feed, which equates to a concentration of 100 ppm tylosin. Feed for 7 days.
To prevent necrotic enteritis, feed 400 g premix/ tonne feed, during periods of clinical disease risk.
Layers:
Feed 88–220 g premix/1000 kg complete feed, which equates to a concentration of 22–55 ppm tylosin. Feed from time of shifting into laying house.

Withholding times

Meat: Pigs and poultry producing meat or offal for human consumption must not be sold for slaughter either during treatment or within 12 hours of the last treatment.

Eggs: Nil.

Special Precautions

Tylosin is an antibiotic in the macrolide family, and is considered critically important to human and animal health. Indiscriminate use of this antibiotic can contribute to the development of antibiotic
resistance, and it should not be used as a first line treatment. The use of this antibiotic should be reserved for the treatment of conditions that respond poorly to other classes of antibiotic following
culture and sensitivity testing, or in cases where other treatments have been clinically determined to be ineffective. Use of this antibiotic should be limited to the minimum period needed to meet
the clinical objective. Clinical response should be monitored during treatment, and choice of therapy reviewed if clinical signs of disease persist, increase, or relapse.
