Poultry Health Seminar 2018
17 January 2019
A two-day poultry gut health technical workshop held in Auckland on 4th and 5th December, featured Huvepharma's Dr. Veerle Hautekiet and Dr. Ben Dehaeck as invited speakers. They were joined by Dr. John Smith, formerly at Fieldale Farms Corp., USA.
Organised by AgriHealth Ltd., this was the 3rd annual workshop they have conducted and this year’s topic was managing broiler chicken gut health in an antibiotic-free production system.
The workshop was very well attended by over 40 of the industry’s technical people with all major broiler companies, feed and premix producers represented.
Veerle Hautekiet covered the role of alternative feed additives to control gut health and critical management factors to consider to minimise the risk of gut health issues without antibiotics. Ben Dehaeck presented non-ionophore methods of coccidiosis control and key points veterinarians and nutritionists need to know when using vaccines and formulating long-term coccidiosis management programs. John Smith discussed his experiences with no antibiotics ever production in the USA, and provided insights into what are the key risks and success factors needed to make it work in the USA broiler production system.
Feedback from attendees was very positive. The time and effort that each presenter made to travel to New Zealand for the seminar was greatly appreciated by the workshop guests.
