Action
Monensin is a coccidiostat that assists in the prevention and control of coccidiosis in poultry and ruminants.
Monensin is a monovalent ionophore that increases milk protein production in cows by increasing the ratio of propionate to acetate and butyrate produced by the rumen microflora.
Indication
Dairy Cattle:
For increased milk protein production, aids in the control of ketosis, aids in the prevention and control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria bovis and Eimeria zuernii, aids in the reduction of bloat.
Beef Cattle:
As an aid in the prevention and control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria bovis and Eimeria zuernii, aids in the reduction of bloat.
Replacement Heifers Calves:
As an aid in the prevention and control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria bovis and Eimeria zuernii
Sheep:
As an aid in the control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria ninakohlyakimovae, E.ahsata, E.faurei, E.parva, E.intricata and E. pallida.
Goats:
As an aid in the control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria arloingi.
Broiler Chickens and Layer Replacement Chickens:
As an aid in the prevention of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria acervulina, E.brunetti, E.maxima, E.mivati, E.necatrix and E.tenella.
Growing Turkeys:
As an aid in the prevention of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria adenoides, E.gallopavonis and E.meleagrimitis.
Dosage
All rations (including dry feeds, silage, wet feeds) should be converted to a 90% dry matter basis for calculation of the Monotec 200 microGranulate premix addition rate.
Calves:

Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the supplement to provide the equivalent of 100 ppm (mg/kg) of monensin active ingredient in the supplement. This is equivalent to administering 0.5g of Monotec 200 microGranulate premix per calf / day when supplement is fed at 1kg / calf / day.
Beef cattle, Replacement Heifers:

Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the supplement to provide 200 mg monensin per animal per day when the supplement is fed at its recommended rate. This is equivalent to feeding 1g of Monotec 200 microGranulate premix per animal per day.

In complete feeds:
Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the ration at a rate of 50 g to 165 g Monotec 200 microGranulate premix per tonne of feed. This is equivalent to 10 to 33 ppm (mg/kg) of monensin active ingredient in the final feed. Ensure that a minimum dose of 100mg monensin per animal per day is administered.
In Supplements:
Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the supplement to provide the equivalent of 100 - 360 mg monensin per animal per day, when the supplement is fed at its recommended rate. This is equivalent to 0.50 - 1.8 g Monotec 200 microGranulate premix per animal per day.
Sheep and Goats:
Complete Feeds:
Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the ration at a rate of 25 to 100 g per tonne of final feed. This is equivalent to 5 to 20 ppm (mg/kg) of monensin in the final feed.
In Supplements:
Thoroughly mix Monotec 200 microGranulate premix into the supplement to provide 7.5 mg to 40 mg monensin per animal per day when the supplement is fed at its recommended rate. This is equivalent to feeding 0.0375 - 0.2 g of Monotec 200 microGranulate premix per animal per day. Example: In order to provide 30 mg / hd / day monensin intake:

Broiler and Layer Replacement Chickens:
Thoroughly mix 0.5 kg to 0.6 kg of Monotec 200 microGranulate premix in one tonne of feed to provide monensin equivalent to 100g to 120g activity per tonne of complete feed.
May be fed up to point of laying in layer replacement chickens.
Growing Turkeys:
Thoroughly mix 0.3 kg to 0.5 kg of Monotec 200 microGranulate premix in one tonne of feed to provide monensin equivalent to 60g to 100g activity per tonne of complete feed.
Feed continuously as the only ration until 16 weeks of age.
Contraindication
Poultry or cattle consuming monensin should not be treated with products containing erythromycin, tiamulin or oleandomycin
Withholding times
Cattle: Meat Nil Milk Nil
Sheep and Goats: Meat Nil Milk: Milk intended for human consumption must be discarded during treatment, and for not less than 35 days following the last treatment.
Poultry: Meat Nil. Eggs from treated birds must not be sold for human consumption for 10 days following the last treatment.
Special Precautions
Care must be exercised when feeding concurrently with antimicrobials.
Do not allow use on horses or dogs as fatal toxicosis may result.
