Poultry Workshop in New Zealand in June 2017
23 September 2017
Huvepharma's Koen de Gussem (Global Technical Director) and Matthew Evans (Global Product Manager, Aviapp) ran a successful workshop for New Zealand poultry vets, nutritionists and livestock managers.
AgriHealth arranged the workshop, which was attended by 30 members of the poultry profession, representing a high proportion of individuals involved in the NZ industry. Rayna Todorova (Export Manager) also accompanied Matt and Koen on visits to NZ customers and poultry farms.
The Poultry Health workshop was an opportunity to launch Aviapp and also provide updates in the areas of coccidiosis and bacterial enteritis (including monitoring). There was considerable discussion around Advent, as AgriHealth plan to launch this vaccine in late 2017. The workshop dinner allowed interesting discussion among key technical people from the NZ poultry industry.
A practical session, involving scoring broilers for coccidiosis and bacterial enteritis using the Huvepharma scoring charts and AviApp booklets, was a highlight for attendees. There was a wide range of levels of experience in the group and it was an opportunity for collegiality and Matthew enjoyed mentoring less experienced people during the post-mortem session.
AgriHealth has sent a post-workshop survey to attendees and received great feedback. Broiler integrators in particular felt that the workshop and practical session ensured their teams are more standardised in their approach to scoring gut health of birds. There was also real interest in adopting the Aviapp within the NZ poultry industry.
